Graduate programs at UFABC are dedicated to advance frontier research in science and technology, fostering innovation and excellence. Our Graduate Programs equip researchers to address the growing demands of higher education while contributing to national and regional technological development.
UFABC views research as the driving force of graduate studies. We expect the development of novel ideas capable of expanding human knowledge. UFABC actively promotes interdisciplinary research, encouraging collaboration across diverse scientific fields to tackle complex challenges.
Master’s and Doctoral degrees
UFABC offers, in total, 29 graduate programs. Twenty include Master’s and Doctoral degrees; six include only Master’s, and three are professional Master’s Degrees. The university also has the Academic Master for Innovation (MAI), and the Industrial Academic Doctorate (DAI).
UFABC’s graduate programs range from a focus on STEM areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), to the Humanities and Social Sciences, securing UFABC’s strategic role in addressing global and contemporaneous issues with cutting-edge research.
An academic Master’s program promotes the development of studies that demand mastery of conceptual and methodological scientific tools. Through education and investigative works, graduate students are trained as researchers and academics. In Brazil, Master’s programs follow undergraduate studies and are focused on scientific research.
UFABC’s Professional Master’s Programs aim to provide continuing education for teachers currently working in public basic education. Our programs focused on areas of concentration and themes directly linked to improving Basic Education.
Doctoral programs build upon the foundations of the Master’s degree, culminating in original, creative, and relevant studies that aim to advance scientific knowledge.
UFABC was the first university in Brazil to offer an Academic-Industrial Doctoral program (DAI, in the Brazilian Acronym), sometimes called Industrial Ph.D. This program defines a new entry mode for future Ph.D. students, where the identification of the research project is the direct result of a collaboration between the University and the Research & Development area of a private or public company. DAI is a pioneering pilot initiative, making UFABC the first university in Brazil to implement such a program in collaboration with the Brazilian funding agency CNPq. The Academic Master’s in Innovation (MAI) follows the guidelines of the DAI, fostering the integration of research and innovation in small businesses and startups.
