CULTURAL ENTITIES
The UFABC Cultural Entities aim to encourage the development and execution of cultural, social, scientific, and entrepreneurial activities, being institutionally recognized by the Dean of Outreach and Culture (PROEC). Consult the activities and projects of the university currently active entities:
- Collective of Capoeira Angola UFABC: an entity that promotes Capoeira Angola in its essence, according to the teachings of Mestre Pastinha. These teachings were passed down to us through the masters who did a lot for the continuity of this art. Capoeira Angola remains alive in the collective through the classes that occur three times a week and through the arrangement of public meetings. Learning includes classes in instruments, singing, and physical moves. It also covers the construction and maintenance of the instruments used in practice and the study of the history of Capoeira Angola.
- UFABC Anime Club: a space created at the University that gathers fans of manga, anime, and Japanese culture. In the weekly sessions, mostly Japanese works are presented and discussed. In the first period for first-year students, the entity promotes integration activities to help them adapt to the university rhythm, offering a leisure option within the academic environment. To this end, they also have get-togethers for entity members, as well as occasional trips to parks and external events as an alternative form of entertainment.
- Infanteria: In 2009, the idea of creating a Drum Group at UFABC arrived in full strength! The following year, there were already 100 applications for the drum lessons, which had only 35 instruments. Today, “Infanteria” has in its curriculum participation and awards in drum challenges, in events in the ABC region, and with some of the most prominent Samba Schools in São Paulo, making the entity evolve and increase in quality and number year after year, with the strength of more than 100 percussionists and the largest university crowd in Brazil!
- UFABCirco: has the purpose of enabling, promoting, and disseminating circus arts in the UFABC community. It also represents UFABC through circus activities, in artistic, sporting, or social nature, through interventions, presentations, and various events. In addition, UFABCirco improves the quality of life of its members and promotes culture and cultural activities, occupying spaces inside and outside UFABC with the beauty of the circus.
- Coletivo Negro UFABC: The “Coletivo Negro UFABC” identifies itself as the formalization of the black movement at UFABC. Its main objective is to guarantee the admission, permanence, and well-being of all black people who occupy university spaces, as well as to give voice to their needs and demands. The “Coletivo Negro UFABC” seeks to integrate the community through the recognition and appreciation of all cultures and epistemologies with African roots. It is a representative entity of non-partisan political action and fights against repression and discrimination of any kind. All black people with a direct or indirect relationship with UFABC are welcome to participate in the collective.

STRATEGIC OUTREACH ACTIONS
- UFABC Preparatory School: the UFABC Preparatory School (EPUFABC) began its activities in 2010 as an extension project conceived by undergraduate students at the Federal University of ABC. From the outset, it sought to promote access to quality higher education for low-income communities in the ABC region by offering a free preparatory course for the National High School Exam (ENEM) – used to select students for UFABC. After 15 years of existence and now as a permanent extension program linked to UFABC’s Dean of Extension and Culture, it has already served around 6,000 students, all from public schools.
- UFABC Children’s University: the UFABC Children’s University is a science outreach project that includes actions aimed at children. The actions aim to bring elementary school children closer to academia, promote their scientific culture and empowerment. The project offers opportunities for children to reflect on science and get to know the people and place behind it, facilitating dialog between children and scientists about the world.
